I now have a cool new interactive studio and gallery space above one of the coolest blues clubs in the area! I mean really it just doesn't get much cooler than that!

I shot out of bed at 5:00am today with a vision in my head! I wanted to take some elements of classic asian design, and merge them with my loose geometric style, and see if I could recreate what I was seeing in my head... to my surprise... it ended up looking even better!!!
Its the beginning of a new collection that I am going to call ModZen. Keep your eyes open, as I am working on 2 more of these today, and I plan on creating many more. Once I have a decent collection put together, I will put them in a new book called 8-sided square. I know, it sounds a little strange, but I will explain it all in the book. In the meantime - ENJOY!
todd... now that I got that painting out of my head... I am getting a little sleepy. 5 in the morning and me... we don't get along so well...

Well... it looks like its been a while since I have added anything to this blog... hahaha! I have been using the homepage to announce the latest news and I kinda forgot to keep this page updated. So here's what is on the plate...
I have been working on a cool collection of graffiti inspired work whick I am really diggin'! Several of the works are now on display in my gallery so check it out! Also, the Sketch Project is coming along quite nicely, and has really accomplished what I was hoping for. I am gathering a sweet collection of work for future inspiration, and meeting up with and networking with a lot of groovy artists!

I just started another ga-roovy project! Its called Sketch Project 12. And its really an outgrowth of my current vision. I wanted to start keeping a sketch diary, in an attempt to continue to hone my drawing skills. Of course once you have all these neato drawings laying around, it seems like you should do something cool with them. right? So I started the Sketch Project. Basically I will spend each month creating all these nifty little sketches, and then bring them together into a singular print at the end of the month. To make it even cooler... I thought why not have other people join in the fun? So everybody can now begin sending me submissions to add to the finished works. didn't get to see me on Fox 8 News in the morning this week...? No prob! Now you can see my appearance in my media section. Especially the one from this week... its like 15 minutes long... Oh, and the guys from Fox 8 were WILD this time, let me tell ya...

me tired now... me no likey getting up at 4:30am! But, I do love working with the folks over at Fox 8. It was a scary task, but I did get it done, and my subjects seemed to like the pieces..
And then we all posed for a nice group shot with the portraits. Kenny even brought his in from home for the morning...
What a crazy morning. The whole gang seemed wired on Red Bull and coffee! I am totally sacked at this point, but I can't wait for my next opportunity to do it all again!

Welcome to 2k6 my friends! So, I got a last minute call yesterday from Fox 8 ... turns out that their feature reporter Kenny Crumpton was supposed to be doing cross country skiing on Thursday, BUT there is no snow here in Northeast Ohio this week. That means... I'm baaaaack!
I am going to be on Fox 8 News in the Morning tomorrow at 6:00am. This time I will attempt to complete 2 of my pop portraits, one of Wayne Dawson, and one of Tracy McCool. This is going to be a tough assignment, but I think I can do it. So look for me tomorrow morning bright and early as todd v artist on Fox 8 in the morning here in balmy Cleveland Ohio!

Well... this will probably be the last blog post on this page for the year 2005. And, let me say... what a year it has been! So many changes, and so much more promise and opportunity to come next year! In the meantime, I have finished almost all of my commissions, so now I have had some time to work on some new pieces. I am trying out some new techniques, and I really like the results...
This piece is 24 inches by 24 inches, and I simply love creating pieces with these jewel-like tones. I had so much fun making this one, I made another right away...
I even made a little video to show you my creative process for these. So, if you are interested... please be sure to visit my media section and look for the projects area! (warning! these are pretty big files... please be patient while they load.)
I am also working on my next book to publish on Lulu.com. In the next couple of weeks, I should have the first poem I wrote entitiled "The Slobberweasy Under the Bed" available for purchase or download. I think that is it for now. Stay tuned...

I can't believe how quickly this year is wrapping up!!! Its getting down to the wire on some commissions I just got last week. I have about 4 days to complete 4 PORTRAITS! Yikes..! All the while I am trying to complete my deal to merge iSmudge with TapItFame.com, and do some work for The Cleveland Artists Foundation... oh, and I need to get the December issue of the canvas out too! This is going to be a crazy week, but these are usually my very best weeks. I seem to thrive on pressure and I love when it all gets done and its just time for another Saturday in the studio, to play and let the creative juices flow. I have lots of ideas for some new works going into next year, and I have finally been assembling some of the video footage I took this fall chronicling the creation of my piece for the 10 year anniversary of the Rock Hall. I should have that up in quicktime format by the weekend.
Ooooh, by the way... keep your eyes out for the ALL NEW Cleveland Canvas Podcast! I am currently experimenting with a way to create an audio rundown of the events going on in Cleveland, so you can take the Canvas with you on the road, if you don't have time to read it all at your desk. (hey Brett... got any original music I can use for background tracks?)

Well... I have been trying to get this done for years now, and now its finally here - I finished my first children's book. I started writing children's books about 10 years ago, just for the fun of it. After a while, I entered a couple of them into some contests and won some awards. But this is a very tough market, so I really only ever planned on self publishing.
Of course, that takes a lot of time too... And as it turns out, that was just fine, because technology finally caught up, and has produced a simple way to self publish on the web. Well... I guess keeping up with my blogging is difficult no matter how hard I try to keep my life streamlined... hahah! I have been working away at several commissions right now, so I haven't had time to make those much needed additions to my media area, please hang in there, it will be fun, whenever I get around to it. I am now a weekly contributor to cleveland.com so that keeps me busy too!
In between postings here, I have found another really fun photo-blogging tool. Using my Treo phone, and splashblog I can post images of whatever I am doing, whenever I am doing it! hahah! Sorry, I have been away for a few days... Just busy working on some stuff for friends and clients. I have also started working on a new series of paintings that I just love. Plus I love the fact that they seem to work regardless of size! (imho) And, I think they will look great as prints too! Here's a sample.

So, I found this wicked cool software that allows me to create my art galleries crazy fast... so I have three of my galleries up and available for viewing now, please enjoy.
